About the location
PENYGROES
The historic village of Penygroes is an ex-slate quarry mining village situated close to the regal castle town of Caernarfon, bordering Snowdonia National Park, with scenic walks, mountain views and beaches.
An emerging selection of shops, cafes, a vineyard and a pub make the village a thriving community and the wider local area offers restaurants and activities that could fill your escape like as climbing, golfing, boat launches, surfing, climbing walls and horse riding amongst others.
The expansive beach at Dinas Dinlle is just a seven-minute drive away with gift shops, cafes, panoramic views and fish and chips; the perfect seaside combo . Nearby, Caernarfon is home to a castle, steeped in history, as are the steam train trips regularly leaving the station on the Welsh Highland Railway.
Plas Dinas Country House is also nearby; home to some impressive Royal history including The Gun Room restaurant, which has recently been awarded five AA Rosettes. Portmeirion is also a short trip away, featured in the TV series ‘The Prisoner’.
Just eight miles south west is Nant Nwrtheyrn, the Welsh Heritage centre, hosting a licensed cafe with amazing sea views from it's decked dining area. Beddgelert is also a very attractive village, surrounded by the beautiful Snowdonia National Park, with a fabulous arts and craft shop, several pubs and the mysterious story of a loyal dog.
For aircraft lovers, RAF Valley send many test flights over the village as they head to train in the Mach Loop further south. There are also regular flights of the rescue helicopters from Caernarfon Airport to the mountains and coast. The airport, right next door to Dinas Dinlle beach also has a museum and cafe.
Whatever your preference, Huddart Place is the perfect base to explore from.
